5 tips how to become a full time artist

Drawing and Painting Skills Drawing is critical to an artist. Not that you have to do realistic drawings or paintings, but drawing is a measure of how switched on your artistic mind is. It is just like a piano player being able to play scales well. If a piano player can’t play scales then you can be pretty sure the piano playing will not be so good. If an artist can’t draw well, chances are, his art won’t be so good.
Painting is extremely technical and one needs to really know his stuff.

“What is Art?” This is a question I asked all my art teachers. Amazingly, not one of them had a good answer. But years later I came across a philosopher/artist who had an answer that made a lot of sense. Once I heard his definition, I knew exactly what the secret to success was as a full time artist. “What is beautiful?” Aesthetics is a very confusing subject, but once you get some clarity on it, your art will elevate to the level of “fine art.” It is important to know the difference between ART and Decor.

Marketing and Sales Creating an income from your art is important if you want to be a full time artist. If you can’t sell your art, you will have to do something else to earn an income.

Good Advice There are many successful artists around and they all have had to work through various issues. I have links to some artists who tell their stories. This is inspirational and packed with lots of good advice.

Money & Time – Time & Money If an artist runs out of money; it is a problem. The issue is; should an artist spend all his time making money or making art? then by all means paint,
